SKUSA SuperNationals XV Preview - Las Vegas, Nevada

The World's #1 CRG distributor is prepped for an assault on North America's main event this week as Team PSL Karting is on site in Las Vegas at karting mecca - SKUSA SuperNationals XV. Over twenty drivers strong and registered in seven categories, the Canadian-based outfit that supports drivers from around the globe will look to secure a sixth headline victory for CRG and end another season in winning style.

Leading off an international cast of all-stars converging from five different countries is CRG Factory driver Mirko Torsellini in KZ2. Fresh from winning the WSK Final Cup in Ortona, Italy, Torsellini is one of five PSL entries in the headlining KZ2 field. Michael Vincec and Fritz Leesmann will also put up a challenge, the pair looking to break a European stronghold on the SuperNationals podium. Vincec, the reigning Florida Winter Tour DD2 Champion who took a pass on the World Finals to return to SuperNats, was on the podium the last time drivers from North America reached the steps in 2008, and Leesmann is the reigning SKUSA S1 Champion. He secured the title by finishing second in class a year ago and will look for more of the same this year seeing double duty once again. Brazilian shifters Bruno Leon and Andre Sousa are also in KZ2, each set to debut in the top flight at the Rio.

PSL Karting also has a stout lineup in the G1 Master class, which might just as well be dubbed Team Brazil. The world's fifth largest country has ten of the twenty-eight drivers in G1, six pitting under the PSL tent. Emilio Padron will surely be a driver to watch, as he was second a year ago with PSL/CRG and was also second in the 2008 edition of SuperNationals. Antonio Canedo, Luis Sousa, and Pedro Serrano are veterans of SuperNationals as well, while Guilherme Jacob will make his first G1 start at the Rio and Fernando Penna will make his first start outright.

The remainder of the PSL roster will all see action in the TaG classes from Cadet right through to Masters. A number of PSL drivers enter with podium aspirations, perhaps none more so than Guilherme Salas. The teenager was recently crowned the Brazilian KZ Champion, and he also won two of the last six starts in Formula Fiat as he began a transition into formula car racing. Jonathan Tetreault, Niki Luna and Enzo Mestre will also be active in Senior, a field that will be 80 drivers deep when filled. Austin Versteeg has made the jump to the Junior ranks for SuperNats, and will be joined by Sarah McKay and Ian Cummings at the Rio. Jose Franca, Marcio Quixada and Roberto Pasqualini will line up in Masters, and TaG Cadet will see Pedro Cardoso run for PSL/CRG.

The PSL 'Big Rig' moved onto the Rio grounds Sunday with the remainder of move-in taking place Monday and Tuesday. SuperNationals XV track action begins Wednesday with the first of two practice days before qualifying and heat racing begins Friday. Saturday will serve up heats two and three in each class, setting the grids for Super Sunday. Follow the trackside action beginning Wednesday at ekartingnews.com.
