Pan American Challenge II - MRP, Indiana
jeudi, mai 26 2011
The second round of Pan American Rotax Max Challenge Eastern Qualifying was recently held at Michiana Raceway Park in North Liberty, Indiana, and despite having just four drivers on hand, PSL nearly matched its results from the first qualifying event at Homestead! Ten drivers scored two wins and six podiums at the first event, while at MRP the tally was three wins and five podiums!
Once again leading the PSL charge, Anthony Gangi Jr. scored a weekend sweep of Micro-Max. He swept the day on Saturday, and after starting from off-pole on Sunday took the checkered first in both race runs. The pair of main-event wins followed a first and second from Homestead, and along with now being qualified for the Pan American RMC Championship Event this Fall, the New York driver is surely among the class favourites in Micro-Max. The Pan Am Championship is being held at New Castle Motorsports Park - the same track where Gangi won the 2010 US National Championship!
Also scoring a win on Saturday with the aid of Homestead PSL was Collin Daley in Rotax Junior. Sent to the back after an infraction in qualifying, Daley didn’t let the ruling hold him down as he charged through a 21-kart field to fifth in the prefinal, then continued on to #1 in the final. In what Pan Am Challenge reporter Bill Wright called ‘unquestionably the most eventful race of the day,’ Daley slotted third through one lap and took second working lap four. The race was then stopped near half distance due to rain, and when it restarted, Daley upped his bid for a win. He took the lead on fourteen for the first time, then secured the spot in the closing laps! The Jamaican driver followed with a fifth on Sunday, once again on a charge as he started from P14.
Mini-Max drivers Austin Versteeg and Darren Keane scored the other podium results, both finishing third. Versteeg did it first, as after qualifying second and holding the spot in the prefinal, he was third in the first Mini-Max race of the weekend. Keane matched the effort on Sunday, as after qualifying ninth and improving to seventh in the heat race, he came all the way to the podium in the final.
Full team results can be seen below. Pan American Challenge Eastern Qualifying continues June 25-26 at Mosport International Karting running in conjunction with the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. For more information on the world’s #1 CRG dealer, please visit pslkarting.com
