Pan American Challenge I - Homestead, Florida

mardi, avril 19 2011

Following immediately on the tail of a very successful winter season that saw it capture five championships and qualify four drivers for the 2011 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, Team PSL Karting began its summer season recently at Homestead Karting. Taking the change in stride, PSL/CRG drivers never missed a beat in scoring a pair of wins and six podiums to begin the Pan American Rotax Max Challenge.

A trio of PSL stalwarts did the damage as Anthony Gangi Jr., Austin Versteeg and Nicholas Latifi each doubled-up on the opening weekend podium. As is often the case when he takes to the track in major competition, Gangi was in the thick of Micro-Max action from start to finish. He began Saturday on the front row, won the prefinal, then took the first main-event of Pan Am Eastern qualifying with a thrilling last-lap pass-to-win. A day later Gangi took the prefinal once again, and in another thrilling Micro final came up with his second-straight podium with second place.

Latifi was also on top of the box Saturday as the freshly crowned Gatorz Challenge Champion swept opening day. After sitting on pole and winning the prefinal with the fastest lap in the DD2 field, Latifi nearly went wire-to-wire in winning the final by 1.7 seconds. Sunday was P3 from qualifying to final, and Latifi also had back-to-back podiums.

Fellow Gatorz Champion Versteeg produced his double-podium weekend with third on Saturday and second on Sunday. He began the weekend on pole position and won the prefinal before running to third in Mini-Max. Then on Sunday started off-pole, was second in the prefinal with fastest lap, and finished there once again in the main. Teammate Josh Sirgany was also in the area, finishing fifth in class in the first race and sixth on Sunday.

PSL Juniors and Seniors scored mixed results, yet most were in the top ten in one start or the other. Full team results can be seen below. Pan American Challenge Eastern Qualifying continues May 20-22 at Michiana Raceway Park. For more information on the world’s #1 CRG dealer, please visit pslkarting.com.
