Pan American RMC - New Castle, Indiana

lundi, juin 28 2010

With two weeks remaining prior to the US Grand Nationals, there is perhaps no team better poised than team pslkarting.com. Proof was on display at the annual Rotax Summer Shootout, as eight drivers with PSL/CRG or PSL/Rotax combined for three poles, five wins, and eight podiums when the Pan American Rotax Max Challenge visited New Castle Motorsports Park, home to the 2010 Grand Nationals. It was a performance that saw PSL winning in every category it entered, including a clean sweep of the top four in Rotax Micro-Max.

“Everybody was really happy with the results, and for myself it’s always good to see a podium all PSL!” said Dominic Labrecque, President of pslkarting.com. “We’ve always had a good Rotax engines program, but now since we’ve stopped developing ICC engines and focussed on Rotax only, we have three engine guys doing Rotax full-time. And having ‘Big Dan’ working only on Rotax makes our engines’ program even better. We qualify five to seven drivers for the World Finals every year, and this year should be the same.”

Pier-Luc Ouellette was the first to qualify this season, winning the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Max Challenge for PSL/CRG, and if the Pan American was any indication, pslkarting.com will be adding to its Grand Finals roster in Indiana and score National titles as well. Team driver Jesus Rios Jr. has been dominating the Pan Am in senior, Jordan Perry swept Mini-Max with PSL power, and Micro-Max had all others pleading no contest.

“The support from PSL is incredible!” said Rios, who began with the team at the 2008 FWT. “They are always pushing for the top spot of the podium and they make sure all equipment and motors are ready to go perfectly for all the big races I attend. PSL has definitely been an enormous help to me in karting, and I’m definitely planning on making it to the World Finals from the Pan Am or Nationals. The fact that the World Finals are in La Conca, where I went in 2008 for the finals, is really uplifting because I was fast there in junior. And now with even more experience I think I can really do well over there.”

Based on what he’s shown in four Pan Am senior starts, the change in class certainly won’t hinder the fifteen-year-old from Miami Beach. He’s had a pair of wins and a second, and has set the fastest lap of a race four times. At New Castle he went from sixth to the lead in just seven laps before checking out on the field.

“My dad, Dan and I just kept picking off all the little problems we had from the beginning of the day to the end, and it really showed in the final,” Rios said of Saturday. “I definitely felt the kart was working great and I didn’t need to make any corrections with the steering wheel through the corners, the kart was just going wherever I wanted it to. We had definitely found the sweet spot on the CRG - and man was it fast!”

Others were finding the same with PSL support, as Jordan Perry won the Mini-Max final, and Josh Sirgany and Matthew Thomas were one-two in Micro-Max. Sunday brought more of the same as both Rios and Perry earned pole positions, and while Rios retired in the main, Perry took his second straight win and Micro-Max saw Darren Keane, Anthony Gangi Jr., Thomas and Sirgany go one-two-three-four!

PSL has also been very active at home in the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship, the Vega Cup and the Coupe de Montreal, but the US Grand Nationals are where its sights now lay. “We will be going to New Castle with five or six staff guys and our rig to support our customers,” said Labrecque. “Other drivers interested in PSL/CRG or PSL/Engines can reach us at 1-888-889-5278 or by email at info@pslkarting.com.”
