PSL Karting expanded its Grand Finals roster to eleven recently when Jesus Rios Jr. captured the first Pan American Rotax Max Challenge Senior crown. Rios now joins brothers Pier-Luc and Hugo Ouellette in the premier class at La Conca, along with Kyle Herder, Kyle Stevens, Nathan Mauel and Rudy Camarillo in DD2, Luc Sauriol in DD2 Masters, Nicholas Latifi in Rotax Junior and Mini-Max observers Jordan Perry and Alexandre Fortin. PSL has drivers from Canada, the USA and Mexico set to compete, and Rios, like the rest, is looking forward to the biggest Rotax party on the planet.

 

 

 

"I’m really looking forward to the worlds," he said from home in Miami. "This year I have been comfortable with the senior package and my dad’s been tuning it well so I think we have the package for a good race weekend. I’m not expecting anything specific in terms of results, because as I see it, when you expect yourself to do overly well the weekend just doesn’t turn out so well. Nearly all of the senior drivers going to the worlds are very top drivers and they all know what they’re doing; and they are all going for the same reason - to be world champion. So I’m just keeping it cool, and I’ll leave it to the weekend and see how I do."

 

Being with PSL and such an extensive team roster will help, and so will the fact Rios will be on a CRG and won’t be a driver having to learn a new track. As a Team USA junior representative in 2008, Rios raced La Conca and advanced to the world final. He’ll be looking for that and more this time around, with Grand Finals week running November 14th to 21st.

 

 

 

At California Speedway in Fontana for the Pan American RMC finale, Rios had his trip to Italy virtually assured and solidified it with Saturday’s final and the class championship. That gave PSL yet another Champion in the 2010 season, and Josh Sirgany became another on Sunday. After dominating the opening day with pole, prefinal and final, Sirgany took the pole and prefinal on Sunday before finishing third and winning the class championship in Micro-Max. Austin Versteeg became the third PSL driver to climb the Pan American podium when he, too, had a great final weekend. After qualifying on the front row and winning the prefinal on Saturday, Versteeg was second in the final and after qualifying fifth on Sunday he was second in the prefinal and third in the main event. The points haul led to third in the Mini-Max championship.

 

PSL will now have a very busy November, as two of the world’s biggest events happen at the same time. PSL president Dominic Labrecque will head one team in Las Vegas at SKUSA SuperNationals, while another will be in Italy for the Grand Finals.
