  An amazing week-end!

VEGA Championship 2007

Trois-Rivières – Québec – July 31, 2007 –It was a mission completed for the second to last race of the 2007 VEGA championship that was presented this past week-end on an urban circuit in Trois-Rivières with a crowd of 10,000 people over two days and with 130 drivers leaving without forgetting the sun on Sunday."We came with my son to watch our Quebec drivers, whether they be young or old, live the experience on the Trois-Rivières circuit," explained passionate spectator Pierre Tremblay.

Although 5 times out of 6, the VEGA championship presents its races on karting circuits, the urban circuits always instigate drivers. "For me it is the event of the year" explained Mr. Beltrami, driver of the VEGA series. "I even postponed my holidays" explained another. "With the crowd close to the track and its unique, I can say that the experience is incredible once you realize the excitement," explained Michel Vézina, who won the final in the Master category.

On the sporting level, it was interesting to note the psychological width of such a track. Some drivers were less at ease and preferred to play it safe and were interested in collecting the maximum points for the championship. While the gentlemen preferred to play hard by driving tough, and of course, there were also the crazy drivers that caused disappointment to many competitors. Whatever the attitude of the driver, the race preceded in the best interest of the sport.
Race director, Éric Baker, did not ignore anything "It is clear that this type of race requires more discipline in order to prevent major accidents. The drivers meeting made it possible to emit some important rules that all drivers respected especially in terms of safety."

In the youngest category of 8 year-olds, where the battle for the title is always exciting to watch, the duel took place during the final between Maxime Plante, Samuel Fontaine, Kevin Hébert and Marc-Antoine Cardin who dominated the qualifying session in the morning but was beaten by Maxime Plante for the win and took control of the championship. The order for the podium was Plante, Fontaine and Hébert.

During the Mini-max qualifying session, Jordan Fiset clinched pole position in front of Jesse Lazare who finished second. The results stayed the same for the final. Fiset dominated all week-end and was very satisfied of his performance. During this time, Jesse Lazare ensured the 2007 title before the end of the season. Alex Guénette took the last place on the podium.

In the Rotax junior category, Mikaël Grenier performed his best as always, and also clinched the 2007 title before the end of the season. He was followed on the podium by Mathieu Bourgoin who led the first few laps of the final. Dominic Legrand completed the podium with a third place finish in front of Jérimy Daniel.

In Rotax Max senior, the domination of brothers’ Antoine and Joseph Genest was a surprise to many during the pre-final because Antoine clinched three pole positions on this track in the past. However, it was Antoine who grasped the win followed by Olivier Sirois current leader of the championship and Élie Arsenault who was dominant and constant all week-end.

In the 125 CC-DD2 category, Tom Cadieux from Ontario took advantage of the pass made by Philippe Gélinas on the leader Dany Trépanier to take first place and hold on until the finish line. With top speeds of 143 km/h at the end of the Portuaire tunnel, it was necessary to be precise on deciding where to pass. Mitchel Lacombe and Mark Flood finished respectfully in second and third.

In the gentlemen category, Michel Vézina did not commit errors as he took to the urban circuit by skillfully clinching the victory in the Master class in front of Michel Legrand, also from Montreal, and Jean-Marc Piché. In the F.A.Q category, Michel Legrand, who was registered in two classes, won first place in front of Martin Verville with only a 3,331 second lead and Laurence Nadon completed the podium in third. To complete the eight categories this week-end, Stephan Lacharité who won pole and the pre-final in Honda Senior left first place to Vincent Cyr. Marc André Lévesque finished third.

The VEGA championship will take a 7 week break before the next race on September 16th at the Chateau-Richer track in Quebec.
