Grand Prix Napa of Québec is a hit!
Tuesday, July 18 2006
Québec City, Québec – This Sunday, on the temporary track of Expo-Cité grounds, were held the pre-finales and finales of Grand Prix Napa de Québec. The day turned out to be quite an event, popular (nearly 5,000 spectators were admitted on the site) as well as exciting with hotly disputed races.
With more than 150 drivers racing, it established a record for an event in the Championnat de l’Est du Québec de Karting. Despite the intense heat that coated Québec City all weekend, this first edition of Grand Prix Napa de Québec went perfectly well from the first to the last day. Sometimes, the classes brought together future stars of Québec motorsports, as well as seasoned drivers who have moved to other series, but wanted to be at the first Grand Prix de Québec!
After the finales, honors went to Zacharie Scalzo in Cadet class, to Alex Labbé in FR 125 Max Junior, to Pier-Luc Ouellette en FR 125 Senior, to Kelly-Mark Michaud in 4-Stroke Senior and to Mathieu Demers in FAQ class. In the Master class, Luc Sauriol . Also to be noted is the win by Tommy Beshro in Mini Max. Beshro has won all the races in this class since the beginning of the season.
In Formula 125 ICC, spectators expected quite a race between Porto-Rico Jan Velez and Quebeckers Philippe Gélinas and Michael Marjaba. At the end of the finale, positions remained the same as for the qualifying: Velez, one of the most experimented drivers with this kind of machine (he has been participating in the 125cc races in the US for many years), wins in front of Gélinas and Marjaba.
12th on the grid on Saturday, Bertrand Godin kept improving his standing, finishing 9th in the finale. Former driver in Formula 3000 in Europe and Formula Atlantic and Indy Lights, in North America, Godin was coming back to this class after a 14-year gap! 23 drivers were on the starting grid for this finale in 125 ICC.
This first edition of Grand Prix Napa de Québec was made possible by the following sponsors: Napa, Coca-Cola, Belle Gueule, Encan H Grégoire, TQS, Radio Énergie 98,1, Lavertu Extrême, CKEQ, PSL Karting, Star Club, Hôtel et Motel Bonaparte, Solotech, Copie de la capitale, Composition Orléans, Sports Vegas, Canadian Tire, La maison du rôti, Sportimage Communications, CKEQ, Station service Daniel Sirois, Les immeubles Beshro, Groupe Beltrani, MaxJet, l'équipe Multiprêts, Formula Kart Racing et Quebeckarting.ca.
The 2006 edition is over. There were no serious accident, but racing was exciting, thousands of spectators, success was on everyone’s smile. Be there in 2007 for the second edition of Grand Prix Napa de Québec!
